Olof Akre

Olof Akre is a urologic surgeon and professor of cancer surgery at Karolinska Institutet and Karolinska University Hospital, Stockholm, Sweden. His main area of research is clinical epidemiologic studies of urologic tumor forms. He is running a large randomized controlled trial (the SPCG-15 trial) comparing primary surgery to radiotherapy in locally advanced prostate cancer. In a large nested case-control study, he evaluates new molecular prognostic markers in diagnostic prostate-cancer biopsies. Since April 2024, he is director of research, education, and development at Karolinska University Hospital.
